Donald Trump MEK Terrorists And The Troll Factory In Albania

Posted on: 2020/04/23

Murtaza Hussain, The Intercept, April 23 2020:… Trump’s amplification of the post was bad enough on its own: Alavi is a supporter of a militant Iranian cult called the Mojahedin-e-Khalq, known as the MEK, an organization that was designated for decades as a terrorist organization and is widely hated inside Iran. What makes it even worse, however, is that Heshmat Alavi does not exist. As The Intercept reported last June, Alavi is a composite identity run by a team of MEK members based mainly at the group’s compound in Albania, according to defectors who were involved with managing the account and other sources. MEK Revolutionaries Turned Graffiti Artists

Murtaza Hussain, Matthew Cole, The Intercept, March 23 2020:… MEK-affiliated social media accounts periodically share videos of graffiti tags appearing to show support for its positions inside Iran. While such videos are a dubious metric for gauging public sentiment in any country, they are frequently used by partisans in the United States to argue over the political views of the Iranian people. The creation of these videos, sometimes by the MEK itself, apparently rattled the MOIS enough that the ministry issued a directive about it, referenced in the 2015 cable on the MEK, warning that the group would try to incite “acts of graffiti and slogans on the walls and make videos to broadcast on their so-called ‘freedom television,’” a likely reference to an MEK-run satellite television channel known as Voice of Freedom.  Mojahedin-e Khalq MEK Defectors Talk About The Inside Of Rajavi Cult

Murteza Hussain and Matthew Cole, The Intercept, March 22 2020:… From 1997 to 2012, the United States designated the MEK a foreign terrorist organization. But the group, which once opposed U.S. intervention in Iran, has effectively switched sides, becoming a convenient proxy force for Tehran’s enemies, particularly American neoconservatives, the Gulf Arab states, and Israel. The current MEK leadership maintains close ties with several prominent American politicians, including Donald Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton and the president’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, both of whom have been paid speakers at MEK events.

Voice Of America VOA or Regime Change Channel?

Posted on: 2020/01/12

Lee Fang, The Intercept, January 12 2020:… VOA Persian now provides wall-to-wall positive coverage for hard-line regime change advocates. The network provides reliably favorable coverage of Mojahedin-e Khalq, or MEK, the militant opposition that has worked with Israeli intelligence to carry out assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists, even providing a platform for Heshmat Alavi, a fake persona created by MEK. The network’s journalists have also expressed far-right sentiments that have unsettled longtime former VOA Persian reporters, including continued attacks at perceived critics of Trump. Saman Arbabi, one VOA Persian host, mockingly compared the hijab worn by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., to a Ku Klux Klan hood. Voice Of America VOA or Regime Change Channel.

Iranian Protests And MEK Absence Inside Iran

Posted on: 2019/11/22

Jeremy Scahill, The Intercept, November 22 2019:… You’re talking about the MEK right now, which for a long time was a State Department designated terror organization and has had bipartisan political support in the United States from the likes of Howard Dean, Rudy Giuliani, John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, and others … The United States government determined that this was a terror organization, you know, at one point and there was a huge lobbying campaign to lift it. Does it seem to you like the Trump administration policy seems to be a desire to place MEK people in charge of a new Iran? I mean, that was John Bolton’s position and he is gone. VOA, Voice of America? Voice of Trump? Or Voice of Mojahedin-e Khalq MEK ?

Posted on: 2019/08/14

Jordan Michael Smith, The Intercept, August 14 2019:… the MEK is covered heavily and favorably, despite having almost no support inside Iran, a history of terroristic violence, and a well-founded reputation as a cult. A VOA employee, who asked to speak anonymously for fear of reprisal, said, “VOA Persian, for the first time in decades, has been acting as media arm of MEK and is giving wall-to-wall live coverage of their gatherings and events.” And VOA Persian published multiple articles by Heshmat Alavi, a pro-MEK persona exposed by The Intercept this June as having been the product of a multiperson propaganda outfit housed in an MEK compound in Albania. (VOA Persian later said it would remove the articles.) Voice of America? Voice of Trump? Or Voice of Mojahedin-e Khalq MEK ?

MEK Cult Operatives Undermining American Democracy

Posted on: 2019/06/10

Murtaza Hussain, The Intercept, June 10 2019:… Alavi’s articles also mixed criticisms of Iran and U.S. policy with overt advocacy for the MEK. His pieces in the Daily Caller, The Hill, and other outlets — though less numerous than his contributions to Forbes — employed a similar mix of advocacy against the Iranian regime and praise for the MEK. Though the MEK is known to be widely loathed among Iranians, Alavi described the group as the “main Iranian opposition group” in a 2017 Daily Caller article.
