Democracy MEK Style: Hypocrisy ( September 15, International Day of Democracy )

Democracy MEK Style HypocrisyIran Interlink, September 17 2021:… In its 57-year existence, the MEK has never held an election among its members to choose its leaders or its policies. Massoud Rajavi destroyed all sense of normal opposition structure when he announced his sole leadership in 1985 and then converted the group into a mind control personality cult. Later, in a session with one candidate and open ‘voting’ resulting in 100% agreement, he appointed his wife, Maryam Rajavi as ‘president of the future Iran’ – a position she will hold “for life”. Not very democratic then. Democracy MEK Style: Hypocrisy

Democracy MEK Style: Hypocrisy

15th September marks United Nations International Day of Democracy. Sadly, we are living through an age of peak hypocrisy in the name of democracy. Any country in the world, not just America, which prides itself on its democratic principles could hold up a mirror and discover dark, unsavoury activities concerning voter suppression, lobbying by the wealthy, misdirection and unaccountability of politicians and bias in the media.

But, even a superficial observation of the known flaws in these democracies renders the MEK response to this day super ridiculous. The MEK, which ironically introduces itself as the ‘Viable Democratic Alternative’ in its English language sites, used this day to claim in Farsi that Iran is not democratic. In spite of holding a presidential election in June, Iran doesn’t describe itself as a ‘democracy’, so there may be something in this. But then, let’s see what MEK democracy looks like.

In its 57-year existence, the MEK has never held an election among its members to choose its leaders or its policies.

MEK celebrates its 57th anniversary as what?

Every time that Iran holds elections for president or parliament, the MEK call for a boycott. According to the MEK, people should not use the vote they do have to express their preference even among the limited range of candidates. Every year, the MEK anticipate mass uprisings against this limited democracy. It never happens. Every year, the MEK incite violence and insurrection against the country’s leaders. Apparently, the public prefer to vote rather than take part in performative violence.

This year was particularly revealing about the MEK’s sense of democracy. In the west, where they actually have a presence, they physically attacked Iranians who visited polling stations in Iran’s embassies and consulates and other stations. They threw paint, threw punches and jeered and harassed ordinary voters as they went to exercise their democratic rights.

US – MEK meddling poisons grassroots democracy in Iran

The MEK version of democracy is that nobody is allowed to vote for a person or party that is not of its choosing. But, even then, the MEK itself does not hold internal elections. So, that’s it. No votes, no democracy. Just hypocrisy.

1- Victims of terror slam Iran International for promoting terror cult

TEHRAN — Iranian victims of terrorism and their families have written a letter to the Judiciary and the Foreign Ministry calling for legal proceedings against the management of the Iran International TV.

“We, the signatories of this letter and request, are part of the big family of 17,000 victims of terror in Iran, who lost our fathers or children in the terror attacks of groups such as Monafeqin,” the letter read, Mehr reported on Saturday.

Earlier, the London-based TV channel was strongly criticized for its live coverage of a gathering of the MEK (Mujahedin-e Khalq) terrorist group, which is also known as “Monafeqin” (hypocrites) in Iran.

“Unfortunately, we saw in recent days that one of the satellite channels named Iran International, which is broadcast by Saudi money from London, has given live coverage of the gathering of the Mujahedin-e Khalq,” the signatories said.

They also condemned the coverage as “unacceptable”, citing the group’s long record of resorting to violence and terrorism against Iranian citizens.

Last week, Iran’s Ambassador to the UK Hamid Baeidinjad reacted to the live broadcast, saying the Saudi-funded channel showed its utter obscenity and indecency by the act.

After they had an interview with a spokesman for the Al-Ahvazieh terrorist group, the live broadcast of this gathering was commissioned by the Saudi owners of the channel, Baeidinjad wrote in a tweet on July 18.

The MEK was established in the 1960s to express a mixture of Marxism and Islamism. It launched bombing campaigns against the Shah, continuing after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, against the Islamic Republic. Iran accuses the group of being responsible for 17,000 deaths.

Based in Iraq at the time, MEK members were armed by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to fight against Iran during a war that lasted for 8 years in the 1980s.

In 2012, the U.S. State Department removed the MEK from its list of designated terrorist organizations under intense lobbying by groups associated with Saudi Arabia and other regimes opposed to Iran.

A few years ago, the MEK operatives were relocated from their Camp Ashraf in Iraq’s Diyala Province to Camp Hurriyet (Camp Liberty), a former U.S. military base in Baghdad, and were later relocated to Albania.

2- Threat of legal action against Iran International for covering MKO event

London Based Saudi outlet Iran International, July 26 2020

According to Islamic Republic’s semi-official Mehr News Agency, a number of family members of alleged victims of terror in Iran have written a letter to the judiciary threatening legal action against Iran International for broadcasting the MKO’s assembly.

The signatories claim to be “part of the large family of 17000 victims of terrorism in Iran whose fathers or children have been killed by MKO.”

The letter claims Iran International’s coverage of the MKO event is a blunt and clear support of a violent group and announced that they claim the right to take legal action against Iran International

Mojahedin Khalgh Organization (MKO) is an Iranian dissident group that was on the terror list in the US and some other countries for assassinating Islamic Republic officials. MKO also bombed the assembly of the Islamic Republic Party in 1981 which killed dozens of party members including the former president and prime minister of Iran.

MKO was removed from the terror list years ago.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly attempted to organize terrorist attacks on MKO’s annual assemblies in Europe. Several agents and diplomats of the Islamic Republic have been arrested in Europe for the attempted bombing of the events.

Iran International is committed to cover all Iranian political groups and factions. In the past three years, since Iran International started its work, the MKO annual assembly has been covered each year and each time it has received backlash from the Islamic Republic.
