It was just a few weeks ago that the disappeared leader of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MEK/ MKO/ PMOI/ Cult of Rajavi), Massoud Rajavi elaborated a message admitting the killing of seventeen thousand Iranians. “Approving the seventeen thousand casualties of the regime in the battle against the Mujahedin Khalq first of all indicates the longtime and continuing fight between the MEK and the religious fascism,” Rajavi addressed the Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei who had criticized the French government for sheltering the MEK as a terrorist group that has had the blood of seventeen thousand Iranians on its hands.
MEK Thirst for blood : How one terror group killed 12k Iranians
It was just a few weeks after the alleged message of Massoud Rajavi in which he promised the killing of more Iranians, that the Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was assassinated in Absard, a town located in 40 kilometers east of Tehran. However, the terrorist attack was nothing of new. At least five Iranian nuclear scientists have previously been killed in terror attacks.
The Iranian authorities immediately claimed the attack was carried out by Israeli agents and eventually most Middle East experts confirmed the claim adding the cooperation of the MEK agents with the Israelis to the argument. “Israel has in the past, however, used operatives from the MEK — a cult-like Iranian exile group recently removed from the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations — to conduct attacks in Iran,” Trita Parsi, former President of National Iranian American Council (NIAC) writes. “The MEK was the first group to introduce suicide assassinations to Iran.” [1]
As a well-organized military group with at least three decades of overt terrorist attacks inside and outside Iran that resulted in the killing of thousands of Iranians and non-Iranians, the Mujahedin Khalq has always been a dependable proxy force for the enemies of Iran from Saddam Hussein to Israel and American warmongers. The utilization of minority communities in Iran has become an instrument for attempted regime change in Iran. Most significantly, the US and Israel use the likes of the MEK and other terrorist organizations to attack Iranian nuclear scientists and military sites and also to create civil unrest in critical occasions.
Muhammad Sahimi, a Professor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles just a few weeks before the assassination of Fakhrizadeh warned about the notorious support of the US for the Cult of Massoud Rajavi from the era of George W. Bush. At that time some high-ranking officials of Al-Qaida including relatives of Osama bin Laden, had escaped to Iran and consequently were arrested and jailed by Iranian police. “In 2003 Iran proposed to the George W. Bush administration to exchange them with the leadership of the MEK, a cult-like group based in Iraq that opposed the government in Tehran and until 2012 was listed by the State Department as a terrorist organization”, he wrote on Antiwar Website. “Because of its collaboration with the Saddam Hussein regime during Iran-Iraq war, the MEK is universally despised by Iranians. In 2003 the MEK leadership was being protected by the US forces in Iraq after the Bush administration invaded and occupied Iraq in 2003. But the Bush administration rejected the offer, because the Iran hawks wanted, and still wish, to use the MEK against the regime in Tehran.” [2]
The MEK’s malicious attitudes can always be a big obstacle in normalizing and stabilizing relation between nations. That is why the President Biden’s ex-adviser on Middle East affairs, Daniel Benaim suggests the US’s next administration to relocate the MEK in Ethiopia or somewhere on the shores of the Red Sea in order to reduce tensions with the Iranian government. His argument is accurately based on the MEK’s expertise in a variety of illegal acts. “My friend and I share the suggestion that Iran could welcome a reduction in US support to MEK,” he suggests. “Albanian officials in bilateral meetings with American officials have declared that they are concerned over illegal activities of MEK such as trafficking of human beings, drugs or gun running. It is not necessary to shelter Muajhedin-e Khalq in Albania and close to EU borders for a long time and we can study the possibility of transferring them to Ethiopia or somewhere on the shores of the Red Sea.” [3]
Massoud Rajavi has substantially proved that he has formed a cult of personality that justifies any immoral, violent and bloody means to achieve his ultimate ends which is gaining power in Iran.

The assassination of the Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh once more draws attentions to the long-time record of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO, MEK, PMOI, Cult of Rajavi) as a terrorist group that has been involved in numerous terrorist attacks against the Iranian political and military authorities and more recently the Iranian nuclear scientists.
In November 2012, following the assassination of at least five Iranian nuclear scientists between 2007 and 2012, the NBC News revealed that Israel and MEK were responsible for murdering Iranian scientists. The report of Opiniojuris reads: “Deadly attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists are being carried out by an Iranian dissident group that is financed, trained and armed by Israel’s secret service, U.S. officials tell NBC News, confirming charges leveled by Iran’s leaders.”
Besides, more evidences are found in the MEK propaganda websites. The group held one of its so-called press conferences in its Washington office last month.
There, Alireza Jaafarzadeh, the group’s propaganda figure, claimed that Dr. Fakhrizadeh was a “Revolutionary Guard commander” who supervised a site that is “building nuclear weapons”.
“Alireza Jafarzadeh, an NCR representative, said that a body called the Organization for New Defense Research (SPND) had expanded its work since Iran’s 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers (known as the JCPOA, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) limiting its atomic program,” reported Iran International.
“Jafarzadeh said that the SPND, which he claimed oversees weaponization, was active at new site in Sorkheh Hessar, east of Tehran, under the supervision of a Revolutionary Guard commander he named as Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. Jafarzadeh displayed aerial images of this alleged new site, and of a second site at Khojir, near Sorkheh Hessar, that he said was producing ballistic missiles.”
One month after the so-called revelations, the deadly terrorist attack on Mohsen Fakhrizadeh recalls us the same pattern of MEK-Mossad collaboration, the NBC News has already exposed this fact. Numerous experts and analysts did not hesitate to point out to the MEK’s part in the assassination.
Reza Nasr, an international law expert from Geneva’s Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, tweeted a few hours after the terror attack: “The @StateDept revoked the designation of MEK as a FTO on the ground that it renounced to violence and had not seemingly committed acts of terror for a decade. MEK’s likely involvement in today’s terrorist operation in Iran should overturn that decision. #Fakhrizadeh.”

In another tweet in Persian, he asserts that legal actions should be taken to relist the MEK as terrorist organization in case that its part in the assassination is confirmed.

Trita Parsi, the co-founder and Executive Vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and the founder and former president of the National Iranian American Council also tweeted: “Israel has, however, used operatives from the Iranian terrorist organization the MEK in the past to conduct attacks in Iran. The MEK is the group that introduced suicide assassinations to Iran.” He correctly refers to the MEK as the first terrorists in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Olsi Jazexhi, an Albanian historian, specialized in the history of Islam, nationalism and modernity is also a very motivated human rights activist interested to aid families of the MEK members who are not allowed by the MEK leaders to visit their loved ones in the group’s camp in Albania. Jazexhi does not deny the part of Rajavi’s group in the recent assassination. “Did Israel and Albanian based #MEK – #Maryam_Rajavi mafia assassinate the Iranian scientist #MohsenFakhrizadeh?” he tweeted.

Pouya Alimagham, a historian of the modern Middle East and specializes on Iran, Iraq, and the Levant, tweeted about the MEK’s reaction to Fakhrizadeh’s terror: “Notice how the #MEK cult members & leadership haven’t condemned or really said anything about the unprovoked assassination of the Iranian scientist. They’re quietly hoping they’ll be a war w/#Iran. They think the ends (achieving power) justifies the means (war & imploding Iran).”

Massoud Behnoud, a prominent Iranian journalist and writer and a critic of the Iranian government tweeted in Persian telling of his common sense about the part of the MEK in the terror. “Today, Israel has the tools of bluff and show-off but a naughty feeling tells me that the assassination of Fakhrizadeh the nuclear scientist is the work of Mujahedin. Or, at least they had a primary part in it”

Although, the MEK claims that it renounced violence in 2002 and this claim was the base of the arguments that ended with its removal from the list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations of the US State Department in September 2012, investigations and evidences demonstrate that it has never renounced violence, at least not until a few days ago. The main proof is the message of the disappeared leader of the group Massoud Rajavi on October 2020 in which he promised to kill more of the Iranians and also reaffirmed the killing of 17000.00 Iranians so far.

Once advocating the anti-American anti-imperialism stance of their early leaders and then designated as a terrorist organization by the US State Department, the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (the MKO/ MEK/ PMOI/ Cult of Rajavi) is now pretending to be a friend of the US government! The group’s U-Turn to serve the US has been its main policy during the past decades, particularly after the collapse of the group’s long time sponsor Saddam Hussein in 2003.
However, not all parts of the US government are favourites of the MEK. As far as an administration is a hawkish one, with stricter policies against the government in Tehran, it is favourable for the MEK leaders. Thus, Trump and his warmonger team must be the MEK’s best friends in the US administration. Therefore, it is worth it for MEK to support Trump for the next term.
The love affair of the MEK with US warmongers is not limited to the paid speeches of politicians like John Bolton and Rudy Giuliani in the MEK-run events in France, Albania and the United States. Mr. President himself has supported the MEK’s campaign against the Iranian nation. Although, the MEK may not be known to most American politicians, the propaganda activities of the group sometimes has been very crucial in manipulating warmongers.
It was a huge disclosure in the mass media when Murtaza Hussain of the Intercept reported that Trump retweeted fake news made by an anti-Iran hardliner who does not exist. He revealed the MEK-made fake persona in tweeter under the name of Heshmat Alavi. “This is not and has never been a real person,” Hussain stated. [1]
The moves by Trump –even unintentionally— seems to be in favor of the MEK. In September, Al Monitor stated that the US President’s appointee to the Supreme Court, “Amy Coney Barrett was part of a legal team that represented the National Council of Resistance of Iran, which had previously been designated by the United States as a terrorist organization”. [2] Dr. Djene Bajalan, a historian of the Middle East talked to the American Michael Brook’s show about Amy Coney Barrett’s relationship with the MEK.
“Amy Barrett’s work has been to advocate on behalf of the Mujahedin Khalq, the MEK which is s a terrorist organization by any standards,” he said. Calling the MEK as “crazy people”, he suggests that these crazy people can run their agenda among the US republicans because they have money. “They pay people big box to give speech and things like that,” he said. [3]
Therefore, it sounds expectable to find the MEK running campaigns making efforts to aid Trump win the elections. The MEK has actually its own usual techniques in misinformation campaigns in the media. The US Director of Intelligence John Ratcliffe announced on Politico, on October 21 that, “Iran is behind threatening pro-Trump emails to U.S. voters”. [4] Juan Cole who is specialized in Middle Eastern and South Asian history and a critic of the MEK’s cult-like violent record, suggests that Ratcliffe’s words are “brain dead thing” and that the spoofed emails can be part of the MEK’s PR mechanism.
He clarifies: “Now, could the spoofed emails have come from accounts in Iran? Sure. The People’s Jihadis (Mojahedin-e Khalq or MEK, MKO), sometimes listed as a terrorist group by the US State Department, wants to overthrow the Islamic Republic, is active inside Iran and could easily set the government up in this way. Or I’m sure that Saudi or other anti-Iran government hackers could route the emails through an Iranian server or spoof an Iranian internet service provider. But, really, guys, intelligence analysis isn’t just tracing an ISP. You have to know geopolitics to know if something is plausible.” [5]
What is significant in the MEK-Warmongers relationship is that all sides of the alliance do not care about Iranian people. The proof of that is the support of US hardliners for the MEK which is a hated entity among the Iranians.
