City News Albania, October 11 2019:… Journalist Gjergji Thanasi has sued for libel and slander an Iranian Mojahed (a member of the so-called MEK cult organization) named Behzad Saffari Dehkord the son of Mohammad and Rezvan born in 1961 in the city of Esfahan, Iran. MEK Trial In Albania
Espionage defamation trial – Albanian journalist against the Iranian Mojahedin
10 October 2019
On October 7, the Durrës District Court held the first hearing of a case of a type that has been handled in the Albanian courts only twice during these 29 years of transition. Journalist Gjergji Thanasi has sued for libel and slander an Iranian Mojahed (a member of the so-called MEK cult organization) named Behzad Saffari Dehkord the son of Mohammad and Rezvan born in 1961 in the city of Esfahan, Iran. Olsi Jazexhi : MEK Helping Albania Slide Toward Authoritarianism
Introducing himself as the legal adviser to the Iranian Mojahedin (MEK) in Albania, Behzad Saffari has accused Albanian journalist Thanasi of being a lowly Iranian spy. He made this allegation in a letter to Mr. Amund Dewve, editor-in-chief of the Norwegian newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv. You can read more at the link: https://www.ncr-iran.org/en/neës/iran-resistance/26246-the-letter-of-pmoi-s-legal-advisor-to-editor-of -chief-of-norwegian-dn. Behzad Saffari’s allegations against journalist Thanasi have also been echoed by other exponents of the Iranian Mojahedin (MEK) resident outside of Albania such as one Jubin Katiraie , whose writing can be read at this link: https://www.iranfocus.com/en/terrorism-mainmenu-31/33565-iran-launches-yet-another-misinformation-campaign-against-opposition. Saffari’s allegations are echoed in an anonymous article published at the following link: http://isjcommittee.com/2019/06/journalism-at-the-service-of-democracy-or-a-weapon-against-democracy/

An ethnic Iranian resident in Norway named Parviz S. Khazai, echoing Behzad Saffari’s allegations, has labeled journalist Gjergji Thanasi a lowly Iranian spy engaged in espionage activities against the Iranian People’s Mojahedin (MEK). He has sent a letter of protest to the Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Norway, Joran Kallmyr, attacking Thanasi and Norwegian journalist Eskil Engdal of the Dagens Naeringsvil newspaper.

Journalist Gjergji Thanasi, offended by such defamation (as he himself told Gazetta Impact Newspaper), sued Behzad Saffari in court for libel and slander and has requested compensation for non-material damage. The first court session was a preliminary hearing, where it nevertheless appeared that Mojahed Behzad Saffari was defended by one of Tirana’s most prominent and well-paid lawyers Genc Gjokutaj.
Inside the courthouse, but not in the courtroom, were two Iranian Mojahedin. One of them was Shahin Ghobadi (pictured in the blue shirt), who in terms of public relations plays a role in the Iranian Mojahedin (MEK) similar to that of Endri Fugai for the prime minister. The other Mojahed (pictured wearing a black jacket) is named Bahram Hassanzadeh. This Hassanzadeh is known to Durres reporters for his over-active role when they were covering the drowning in the reservoir of the village of Rrotull of Mojahed Malek Shara’i in June 2018. Both of these Mojahedin tried to identify the journalists who followed the court hearing as well as the media for which these journalists work. This Hassanzadeh even explained to reporters in pidgin Albanian that the MEK has friends in the media newsrooms where the journalists who covered the hearing work. The next session of this very special transnational-impact trial (spying for Iran SIC!) will be on October 26, 2019.

Original report in Albanian:
Amund Djuve, kryeredaktor i gazetës norvegjeze Dagens Naeringsliv.
