Albania’s Iranian guests
Who are Albania’s Iranian guests? In July, Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani visited an Albanian village just outside Tirana. At a tightly-guarded encampment, he addressed the Iranian group who live there – the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), or People’s Mujahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI). MEK has been a leading opposition voice against the Islamic Republic of Iran for decades.
Following the revolution of 1979, MEK fell out with the Iranian government – members were persecuted, and the organisation moved to Iraq for around three decades. Migration to Albania was facilitated by the United States, and more than 3,000 members have arrived.
But in Albania – a fragile democracy – there’s disquiet. Critics claim MEK’s presence compromises Albania’s security, and is fuelling a crack-down on the press. Meanwhile, dozens of Iranian MEK members have defected but find themselves living a precarious existence in Tirana because they are stateless, without passports.
Assignment investigates the improbable relationship between Albania and MEK.

li Safavi and MEK Fake News Exposed In Albania
Dr. Olsi Jazexhi, Gazeta Impakt, Tirana Albania, October 25 2019:… Ali Safavi has also attacked MEK defectors in Tirana, or more precisely those former Mojahedin who have abandoned terrorism against Iran and have decided to lead a civilian life. Ali Safavi has denounced as Iranian agents some of the deradicalized Mojahedin who live in Tirana and who have given interviews to the BBC, Al-Jazeera, Channel 4, which have revealed to the world the crimes that exist inside the MEK jihadist camp. Commander Safavi, who would have beheaded these members in Iraq, has already labelled Gholam Zadeh Shekari, Hassan Hayrani (heirani), Rahman Mohammadi as agents of Iran. 1- MEK unleashes Ali Safavi for media blitz in Albania
25 October 2019
In the video above Dr Olsi Jazexhi comments on the events involving the Iranian Mojahedin in Albania on October 24, 2019. He tells how MEK brought Saddam Hussein’s commander Ali Safavi from America. MEK Commander Safavi has given several interviews elsewhere in Top Channel, in which Ali Safavi has tried to defend the Albanian government and Ardi Veliu, saying that the statement about the Iranian cell was made by Albanians and not MEK, thereby denying the statements of the Opinion show. Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari and Artan Hoxha told Albanians that MEK maintains an intelligence service in Albania to inform the Albanian authorities about Iran. Safavi has tried to limit the damage caused by this legal and diplomatic scandal. But in an interview with ABC News, terrorist Commander Ali Safavi has attacked former Mojahedin members who have abandoned terrorism and escaped from the Manze camp. Ali Safavi has accused Gholam Zadeh Shekari, Hassan Hayrani (Hajrani), Rahman Mohammadi of being Iranian agents. These former terrorists, who are now making civilian lives for themselves – marrying and building families, have been attacked by Commander Safavi who, while in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, would have brought them under control, is now urging General Sander Lleshi to arrest and imprison them.
The video also mentions the resignation of a Durres judge yesterday who was due to try Commander Behzad Safari, who has been indicted for defamation by Albanian journalist Gjergji Thanasi. In the video analysis above, Dr Jazexhi thinks that MEK made a statement via Ardi Veliu to settle their scores with the group’s defectors in Tirana. Ardi Veliu’s statement and Ali Safavi’s media attacks have nothing to do with Iran but with rumors that MEK is targeting those who do not want to continue as terrorists in Albania. The analyst appeals to Agron Sojati and Prime Minister Rama’s Office for Deradicalization to de-radicalize these Iranian terrorists and prevent the Albanian state from being taken hostage by a former terrorist organization.
2- Commander Ali Safavi accuses MEK deserters of being Iranian agents
25 October 2019
On October 24, senior Mojahedin Commander Ali Safavi, who following an attack against Iran by state police using fake news of terrorist cells, called in more Albanian media to the MEK headquarters in Manze, by issuing more attacks against Iran. But the coordinated attack between the ministry of General Lleshi and the Iranian Mojahedin has not stopped. On ABC News’ Klodian Alliance’s Gülenist television, Ali Safavi has also attacked MEK defectors in Tirana, or more precisely those former Mojahedin who have abandoned terrorism against Iran and have decided to lead a civilian life.
MEK doesn’t look like a legitimate group (Mojahedin Khalq, MKO, NCRI, Maryam Rajavi cult, …)
Asked by ABC news about the attack that Catholics Sander Lleshi and Ardi Veliu have launched against the Iranian state, he is quoted as saying that MEK did not know anything about the attack:
“We were not aware of the information that the director of state police presented… Albanian law enforcement agents should be commended for their hard work, gathering information about that network… We only learned of it yesterday from the media that broadcast it, but we did know that of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Forces, for example, one of the people of that network, Alireza Naghashzadeh, were employees of the Ministry of Intelligence. We knew it, but we didn’t know he was part of the network that went public yesterday. We have general information and have provided information on other people of the regime in Albania in the past. Naghashzadeh wasn’t the only one. There are others, including Gholam Zadeh Shekari, Hassan Hayrani (Hajrani), Rahman Mohammadi. We know that they are in Albania but not where they live. And our message to the Albanian authorities is that these people are agents of the regime and should be arrested and expelled from Albania because their duty is to prepare attacks on opponents of the Iranian regime, “Ali Safavi said.
3- Former terrorist Commander Ali Safavi accuses Iran of terrorism
24 October 2019
Media close to the government set up public opinion with a sensational statement with no facts or evidence but only sentences, names, and a mistake ridden and spooky reading where the Director of the State Police, Ardi Veliu, made public a character chart of people that he claimed intended to disrupt the Ashura celebration in March 2018 in Albania.
They spoke too with names and surnames about terrorists and drug traffickers, but there were only words, no evidence or concrete facts about the persons mentioned and labeled as part of an Iranian terrorist cell which wanted to attack the Mojahedin in Albania.
Immediately after Veliu’s statement, the media received their daily feed served by the “chiefs” and made “gossip” on all Albanian national television channels. Of course, not everyone ate this soap.
Exactly one day after this statement and despite its overwhelming exhaustion with endless lies and allegations they would not miss the lies or allegations of the MEK.
What is most striking is how it is possible that so easily a former terrorist organization that up to 2012 killed Kurds and Arabs, is now so easily spreading fake news and attacking their country’s embassy when they themselves admit that they were unaware of any attack that could be threatened in Albanian territory, near Manza, against a group of over 3,000 MEK members.
Another strange fact is how it is possible that a media channel like the channel that MEK accused a year ago of being bought by Iran now interviews Mojahedin terrorists.
Ali Safavi, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, told Top Channel that: “After stopping that terrorist act and expelling Iranian diplomats, the people in the camp are safer. But we believe that as long as we have Iranian embassies and diplomatic missions operating, the danger of terrorist acts by the Iranian regime is inevitable.”
“It was the QUDS forces, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and the Foreign Ministry, responsible for that terrorist operation against us and the Albanians. They work together to engage in terrorist acts outside Iran. And of course, the Iranian diplomatic missions and mainly the embassies were used to facilitate and coordinate these terrorist acts. We recall that after the terrorist act was averted during our celebrations, the Albanian government took a courageous act to deport the Iranian ambassador to Albania and his deputy, as involved in the plot, “he said…
…However, as the Albanian people say, “even the greatest miracle only lasts three days” and after two days all this zealotry will be extinguished and everyone will act as if nothing happened here, where in fact the Albanian State Police should apologize to the public for this fake news.
4- Maryam Rajavi and Ardi Veliu produce Fake News against Iran
23 October 2019
Albanian media reports that Ardi Veliu, director of the state police, has just announced in a press conference that the Albanian state has discovered an Iranian terrorist cell in Albania.
“An active terrorist cell of the foreign operations unit has recently been discovered in Albania. The terrorist cell is responsible for the March 2018 plan to carry out a terrorist act during the Norouz celebration, a plan that was prevented by increased state police measures thanks to accurate information”, said State Police Director General Ardi Veliu at a press conference today showing the person directing this cell and its members.
This is fake news. Ardi Veliu, who did not even know how to read the names of the Iranians, is believed to have made up the news by order from above and now looks like a joke by the terrorist group of Maryam Rajavi who is hiding in Albania and keeps thousands of disillusioned Iranian jihadists in the camp of Manza by force, fear and savagery.
If the Albanian police have really discovered a terrorist network then they should ask the Turkish authorities to arrest these ‘terrorists’ and show the facts that they have against them. Otherwise, Maryam Rajavi’s lie, as in March 2018 that Iran had planned a terrorist attack on MEK on Norouz Day, has been denounced and deconstructed by Albanian journalists and media.
5- The Iranian terrorist cell and Maryam Rajavi as Albania’s Interior Minister
23 October 2019
In a video recording Dr Olsi Jazexhi comments on the fake news that the Albanian State Police announced on October 23, 2019, according to which Ardi Veliu stated that an Iranian terrorist cell was captured in Albania. Commenting on the pro-Mojahedin show Sokol Balla on News 24 and Blendi Fevziu’s Opinion show, he highlights how police director Ardi Veliu and Deputy Chief of Police and Interior Minister Brig. Besfort Lamallari have admitted in the broadcasts that they have no facts about the alleged Iranian terrorist group. In the Opinion show, journalist Artan Hoxha admitted in the presence of Besfort Lamallari that the Iranian Mojahedin operate a secret service in Albania – parallel to SHISH. This constitutes a violation of the Albanian Constitution and laws. The above conversation shows how the Iranian Mojahedin not only remain in Albania and will sooner or later will leave their camp and flood Albanian cities, but they have taken hostage the politics, ministries and law enforcement agencies of Albania. They play with the Albanian media and public opinion, turning Albania into their jihadist state – like Afghanistan under the Taliban and Mullah Omar.
